This program, which is provided through a grant at the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, is designed to increase awareness across Tennessee on the dangers of opioids and stimulants, as well as promote the available resources for opioid overdose prevention.
Regional Overdose Prevention Specialist (ROPS) training is a free overdose prevention and response training available to individuals and groups across all 95 Tennessee counties. The training gives participants practical information to help them understand opioid use and know what to do if they encounter someone experiencing an overdose.
Completing the training certifies participants under Tennessee’s Good Samaritan Law. Training is free, but completing it does not automatically qualify someone to receive naloxone.
To receive a naloxone kit through this program, an individual must be at risk of an opioid overdose and unable to access naloxone through another resource, such as insurance.
ROPS cannot provide naloxone to organizations or agencies to distribute on behalf of Tennessee Save a Life. Organizations can instead refer individuals who may be eligible directly to ROPS for training, eligibility information, and naloxone resources.
Safe Storage Starts With You
Keeping medications safely stored is a simple step that can help protect children, loved ones, and our communities. Keep all medications up and away and out of sight, and consider using a lock box or other secure storage option for added protection.
Make safe storage part of your routine.
