What: Student Assistance Programs (SAP’s) provide a comprehensive model for the delivery of k-12 prevention, intervention, and support services. SAP’s are designed to reduce student risk factors, promote protective factors and increase asset development. SAP also serves the school through system enhancement and system change based on an infrastructure approach for organizing the services in the school, which range from need assessment, program development and system change to providing one-on-one work with an individual child and family. SAP does not consist of any single strategy, but instead utilizes a variety of effective practices that promote a safe and drug free learning environment that offers students greater potential for success.
