STARS Melanie Scott Chief Development Officer

Melanie Scott

Chief Development Officer

Melanie is no stranger to STARS. She helped merge the Kids on the Block program into the STARS family in 2008 and worked as the VP of New Initiatives for eight years. STARS has always held a special place in her heart, so after an incredible eight-year tenure as Chief Development Officer at Nurture the Next, Melanie has returned to STARS to lead development and fundraising efforts.

A Nashville native, Melanie graduated from Father Ryan High School before earning her degree at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Her passion for education—both academic and experiential—sparked her journey into nonprofit work. Inspired by her mother’s belief that education and awareness are the keys to changing the hearts and minds of those who cause harm, Melanie has dedicated her career to making a difference.

From a large, close-knit Catholic family, Melanie credits her upbringing as a foundation for her happiness. She also believes her poor memory is a hidden blessing—it makes holding grudges impossible! She cherishes her husband and biggest supporter, Lee, as well as their two funny and amazing children. She’s also a fan of their fur baby, Buttercup. Melanie loves Notre Dame football, sweater weather, belly laughs, her husband’s cooking, traveling, and authentic conversations.

STARS is deeply committed to creating a culture and work space that centers on the power of relationships, that values diversity of perspective and experience, and that honors the dignity, worth, and contributions of all.
