Applications DUE FRIDAY, October 18th: Nominations for the Accepting Differences Among Mankind (ADAM) Award

Anneliese Barron, State Director of Best Buddies Tennessee and winner of the 2012 ADAM Award.

The ADAM Award was created by Alva and Mark Duke to honor the life and spirit of their son, Adam Duke.  Adam was born with Down Syndrome, and although his life did not last long, his memory and impact on the world will forever be felt.

In 1981, Alva Duke founded Kids on the Block to both honor Adam’s life and because she wanted to help kids learn to be accepting of each other regardless of their differences.  This award is given annually in memory of Adam Duke to the individual who has consistently “gone the extra mile” to promote the importance of Accepting Differences Among Mankind.

Please complete the nomination form ( ADAM Award Nomination Form 2013 ) and submit to STARS by Friday, October 18, 2013.  The winner will be announced at the 5th Annual CHAIR-ISH THE NIGHT WITH VINCE GILL & FRIENDS event being held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum.  (Tickets are on sale now!!)

Operation Life – By David Cistrunk, Station Camp Sophmore

Operation Life and Prom Promise working together to keep students at Station Camp safe this prom season ... and always.
Operation Life and Prom Promise working together to keep students at Station Camp safe this prom season … and always.

Operation Life was a great expereince to not only be apart of, but to see also. To the school, I feel it helped a lot of people realize the effects of bad decisions. Mrs. Olsen that shared her story with us made a lot of us feel thankful that we are not in her situation.  With her talking to us about her incident, it makes me as a student want to be a careful driver, and support the no drinking and driving movement.

As a culture, I believe the Operation Life helped a lot of students in the long run come together and help stop people from drinking and driving. We all have someone special in our life. Thinking about our family members, friends, and teachers, I know I would not want any harm or danger to come to any of them, or anybody alone.

Guest speaker Phaedra Olsen, MADD

So, I say let’s all support this movement. After all, what are we going to do if that is us behind the wheel drunk, or being hit by a drunk driver?
