Shirin Ebadi, 2003 Nobel Laureate
In 2003, Shirin Ebadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts towards protecting women’s and children’s rights in Iran and across the Middle East — for young women like Malala who was shot in Pakistan for just going to school!
Dr. Ebadi was the first female judge in Iran at the age of 24! Despite death threats and imprisonment, she has worked tirelessly to defend women and children in Iran. Because of her work, she was forced leave her country in June 2009, and has been unable to return home or to see her husband since. She continues to work for human rights around the world.
