Latonia is bilingual in Spanish and English and has worked in Latino and immigrant communities for over 26 years in various capacities. Originally from Jackson, TN, she moved to Nashville to complete her education at Tennessee State University, where she obtained her B.S. in Sociology. After working in the healthcare field, she decided to pursue a career in counseling, earning her Master’s in Counseling and Ph.D. in Clinical Counseling with a specialization in teaching and supervision from Trevecca Nazarene University. During this time, she also earned the Registered Play Therapist™ credential.

Latonia began her professional journey as a counselor, working with children with behavioral issues and adolescent males in state custody. Later, she served Latino children and families who have experienced trauma or survived violent crimes. Latonia enjoys teaching and supervising fellow counselors and has worked as an adjunct professor, teaching undergraduate psychology courses as well as graduate counseling courses.

Latonia also enjoys spending time with her family and friends, exploring genealogy, and binge-watching period films and shows. She loves to travel and has lived in Jamaica, with plans for more international travel in the future.
